Pedestrian Crosswalk signs

A quick note about the foldaway pedestrian crosswalk signs around Cote Saint-Luc. These signs are designed to fold down flat to the ground when struck by a vehicle to minimize damage to both the sign itself, as well as to the vehicle which struck it. The problem is they often fall down on their own in a strong wind, and remain horizontal with the roadway afterwards.

Whenever you see a horizontal one, please do not call dispatch to send either PS or PW to repair it. Just park your patrol vehicle on the side of the roadway, put on your flashers and light bar, and while wearing reflective outerwear exit the vehicle and simply lift the top edge of the sign with one hand and bring it to the vertical position. As always, reflective outerware must be worn even if only going on to the road for a moment. Our safety always comes first.
