It is with the utmost sadness that we learned today, May 15, of the passing of our friend and fellow vCOP, Ben Surkes. One of the most gentle souls ever, he was always ready to befriend anyone he met, and partake in practically every event for vCOP.For those of you who were not lucky enough to have made his acquaintance, he is pictured here at one of our gatherings, dressed in red -seated right front. You may left click on the photo to see his image clearly. He will be missed by everyone.
His funeral will be held at Paperman and Sons (3888 Jean Talon west), Tuesday May 17th at 11:00 hrs. Any volunteer who wishes to attend the funeral services in full uniform is invited to do so.

SURKES, Ben. Suddenly, at home, on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Most beloved husband of Freda Lerner for sixty-six years. Devoted father of Steven and Nancy. Brother of Eve Segal (the late Hy), the late Solly Surkes (the late Rita). Brother-in-law of Mimi and Ben Eisenstat. He will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Tuesday, May 17 at 11 a.m. Burial at the Yishitzer Young Men’s Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva at his home, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. daily, through Thursday, May 19. Contributions in Ben’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
