Earlier this week, you may have seen several widely publicized reports in the media highlighting new CPR/AED guidelines. These reports focused on "hands-only" CPR, and eliminated the-mouth to-mouth breaths. The International Liason Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) reviews the standards every 5 years based on extensive clinical research.
The changes in the 2010 protocols are a substantial change over the guidelines of the last number of years. The introduction of "hands-only" CPR has also been introduced for the general public.
What does this mean to vCOP? For now... nothing. We continue to apply the guidelines for which we were trained and certified, which includes the mouth-to-mouth breaths. The new teaching materials will be available in the spring of 2011.
