Our next, bi-monthly vCOP general meeting will take place Tuesday, April 7th. It will be held, as usual, in the City Hall lower auditorium between 19:00 & 21:00 hrs. The guest speaker will be Commander Sylvain Bissonnette, commandant of SPVM’s neighbourhood police station 9. Sylvain will discuss the role of community policing, especially in terms of police visibility, partnership and community involvement. He'll also talk about what the SPVM is doing to prepare for the challenges we will face tomorrow in the complex and constantly changing security environment of Montréal. A question and answer period will follow.
Continuous education is an essential part of the vCOP program. That's why your attendance at general meetings is mandatory. Some of our members have noticed that other members either never or rarely attend the mandatory bi-monthly meetings; we will have no choice but to place those members who do not attend the majority of these meetings on probation. They may be required to do additional training before being permitted to resume normal patrols.
By updating your skills as a vCOP, you'll be able to perform your duties more effectively and professionally, and ultimately provide the citizens of your community with better service. You will be trained in how to deal with new situations, many of which you probably have not come across while on patrol. Changes to existing protocols, as well as updated procedures are also discussed. General meetings also keep you informed of special events and situations happening in our community which require your attention.
As always, you will be credited with 2 (two) patrol hours for simply attending -and we even supply snacks and beverages to boot. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
